23 Apr ECOFLO Gets the Assist as Hurricanes Host ‘Go Green Night’
The National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes partnered with Bayer CropScience to host the second annual “Go Green Night” on March 28, 2015 when the Hurricanes faced the New Jersey Devils at PNC Arena in Raleigh.
Prior to the game, the Hurricanes and PNC Arena held a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event open to the public and ticketholders to that night’s game. Participants were asked to go through their basements, closets, and storage sheds and bring the following items for collection: paints, solvents, aerosols, acids, pesticides, batteries, propane tanks and fluorescent lights.
ECOFLO, Inc. managed the collection and recycling of the waste collected. They were joined by one special guest, Hurricanes Defenseman Brett Bellemore was on hand to greet fans and hand out entry forms for those dropping off waste. All participating fans were entered to win one of two autographed green jerseys worn by the Hurricanes during the pregame warmup on “Go Green Night”.
“The amount of material collected and the great turn out is just another illustration of this team’s and this community’s commitment to the environment,” said Jim Ballweg, Vice President of Corporate Sponsorships.
During the event a total of 1,392 pounds of household hazardous waste was collected from over 50 participants, including 85 pounds of aerosols, 468 pounds of latex paint, 572 pounds of oil-based paint, 105 pounds of mixed batteries, and 17 pounds of pesticides.
